Which vehicles can you import to Algeria?

Engine type, engine capacity, age, condition: the criteria that get a vehicle accepted or refused at customs.

Which vehicles are eligible for import to Algeria?

Petrol, hybrid or electric only — diesel is excluded from import by private individuals. On top of that come an engine-capacity cap and an age limit, both of which depend on your import scheme.

Diesel is excluded

This is the least well known constraint, and the one that rules out the most vehicles. Private individuals cannot import a diesel vehicle to Algeria, under any scheme.

The impact is considerable when sourcing in Europe, where the used car fleet remains overwhelmingly diesel. A Golf TDI, a 3008 BlueHDi or a Clio dCi are out of the running, however recent and however good their condition.

Engine capacity and age

Each scheme sets its own engine-capacity cap and its own age limit. A vehicle that is perfectly eligible under one scheme can be refused under another.

That is why we show eligibility directly on every vehicle page, as well as on make and model pages. You do not waste time on a vehicle you could not import.

The condition of the vehicle

A vehicle that has suffered significant structural damage is held at customs, even if it was repaired properly. This is a real risk on the European used car market, where some repaired vehicles are on the road without their history being obvious.
